Here are some stereotypes and myths that we often hear. It’s time to set the record straight!
When you experience sexual violence, you may feel angry, ashamed, guilty and even dirty. You might even feel as though you are losing your mind or as though you are abnormal. You may feel like nobody could possibly understand what you are going through and like nothing seems to be working out the way you thought it would.
These reactions and consequences are normal. What is abnormal is sexual violence. A person’s gendre, age, clothing, sexual orientation, etc. does not justify sexual violence. It is not the victim’s fault.
CALACS supports sexual violence victims whether it be for a past or a recent experience. There is no obligation to go through a judicial process.
